Subject syllabus

Multiphase earth environment. Descriptive characteristics (moisture content, density and unit weight) and physical properties. Grain size distribution. Plasticity and consistency of soils, Atteberg´s limits. Classification of rocks and soils. Water flow soils, Darcy's law, the general flow equations, current network consolidation and its progress, hydrodynamic effects on structures. Natural body mechanics, linear elastic half-space, finite element method. Soil properties under load, triaxial deformation, rheological models in the theory of consolidation. Strength properties of soils. Laboratory and field testing, evaluation. Compressibility of soils, compressibility modulus. Deformation characteristics. Methods of calculation of slope stability and ensuring methods. Practical aspects of soil mechanics, soil as a building material, improving properties, temperature effects, the deconsolidation of soils.
