Subject syllabus

1 Automobile frames, ladder frame construction, side members, cross members, nodes of the backbone and truss frame construction, stress and calculation of the ladder frame longitudinal member.
2 Axles, types, rigid steering axles, axle boxes, wheel studs and steering knuckles, design and strength calculation.
3 Rigid drive axles, drive wheel mountings, strength calculation of the drive axle bridge, axle drive shafts, arrangement and design, longitudinal and transverse arrangement of rigid axles
4 Swing axles and half-axles, pendulum axles, independent wheel suspension, trapezoidal axles, McPherson, multi-link suspensions
5 Road vehicle wheels, hub, discs and sprockets, rim, tires, protective inserts, valves, attachment of tires to the hub, spare tire issues
6 Suspension system, requirements, types of suspension systems, types of springs, classic and parabolic leaf springs, coil, torsion, air and polyurethane springs, their characteristics,
7 Influence of spring characteristics, strength calculations of springs.
8 Suspension shock absorbers, function, types, operation, characteristics, stabilizers and stops.
