Subject syllabus

Lectures:
The development of human civilization and energy. Sources of energy. Gaseous, solid, thermal emission. Greenhouse effect.
Solar energy. The spectrum of solar radiation, radiation function, solar constant. Positioning the Sun, solar declination, apparent and mean solar time, Sun's height above the horizon, the angle of sunlight. Solar energy flux density, direct sunlight, diffuse sunlight, total solar radiation. The energy incident on the exposed places, the theoretical amount of energy, the actual amount of energy.
Solar collectors. Types of solar collectors, efficiency.
Photovoltaic energy conversion. Principle, stopping potential, types of solar cells, efficiency, photovoltaic systems. Photovoltaic Energy - CR, EU, World.
Wind energy. Theoretical fundamentals of aerodynamics, usable wind power, Betz’s law. Wind farms - describe the basic parts. Wind Energy - CR, EU, World
Hydropower. The energy of water flows, specific energy turbines, efficiency, power water motor. Hydroelectric power plants - the main types of water turbines. Water Energy - Czech Republic, the World.
Ocean energy. Wave energy, tidal energy, ocean currents, temperature gradient between the different depths, energy osmotic process, heat energy.
Biomass. Purposely grown biomass, waste. Methods of extracting energy from biomass. Thermal processes - combustion, gasification, pyrolysis. Biotechnological processes - anaerobic digestion and ethanol fermentation. Chemical processes - biodiesel.
Geothermal energy. Geothermal ground water, hot dry rock.
Heat pumps. Principle, COP, refrigerants for HP. Ecological aspects of the use HP. HP types: air-air, air-water, water-water, ground-water.
Fuel cells. The principle, types of fuel cells. Practical applications.
Energy storage options - potential, chemical.

Tutorials:
The duty factor different types of plants.
Energy radiation in the visible spectrum. Radiant power of Sun.
Instantaneous and mean solar constant. Solar declination. Sun's height above the horizon, the time of sunrise and sunset. Sun azimuth angle sunlight to an arbitrarily oriented surface. The density of direct radiation. Sky density of diffuse radiation and diffuse reflected radiation in clear and cloudy skies. Optimal orientation of collector area. The density of the total solar radiation. The energy falling on exposed places. Collector area needed for a specific output.
Stopping potential to the semiconductor photovoltaic cell.
Wind engine performance for different input wind speed. The electrical capacity of wind power, energy produced.
Water power engine. Performance waves of the sea.
The yield of water resources for water-water heat pump. Horizontal collector area for ground-water heat pump. The depth of hole for ground-water heat pump.
