Subject syllabus

• Photocatalysts (general concepts, initiation of photocatalytical activity, properties of photoacatalytically active materials, mechanisms of photocatalytical degradations of inorganic and organic substances, photocatalytical splitting of the water, photocatalysts based on the sulphides and oxides, dopation of the photocatalysts).
• Matrices for the support of the nanostructured photocatalysts (natural minerals, molecular sieves, silicon oxide, aluminum oxide, carbon based matrices, metal matrices, polymers).
• Preparation methods of the photocatalytic nanocomposites (chemical methods, mechanical methods, physical methods).
• Methods for the characterization of the nanocomposites (determination of the band gap value, quantum yield, chemical and phase composition of the photocatalysts, methods for used for the study of the surface morphology of nanocomposites, determination of the photodegradation activity in liquid and gaseous phase).
• Application of the photocatalytically active nanocomposites (paint and building industry, water and air cleaning).
