Subject syllabus

1. The concepts of energy, power engineering. Types of energy, rest energy of matter, energy sources. Energy consumption in metallurgy.
2. Transformations of energy. Basic concepts and laws of thermodynamics, 1st and 2nd law, reversible changes, irreversible changes.
3. Heat cycles. Reversible and irreversible cycle, Carnot cycle. Selected cycles from practice - engines, gas turbines, refrigeration equipment.
4. Utilization of thermal energy. Entropy. Exergy, anergy.
5. Energy and exergy balance.
6. The basic types of gaseous fuels, gasification, theory of interchangeability of gaseous fuels, mixing stations examples from practice.
7. Valuation of fuels, fuel utilization factor, dynamic fuel price. Standardization of energy consumption.
8. Transport of water by pumping, pump head. Piston pump, principle, flow rate, power consumption, volumetric efficiency, controlling.
9. Centrifugal pumps. Theory of flow in the relative space, turbine law, input torque, input power. Influences on suction head.
10. Production of compressed air, compression, isothermal, adiabatic, polytropic, real course of compression. Piston compressor, principle, theoretical flow, volumetric efficiency, dividing the compression ratio, flow rate, power, controlling.
11. Turbo compressor. Delivery head, static and dynamic components, reaction degree, shaft torque, power, theoretical flow rate, pressure number, blade shapes. Theoretical and real characteristics. Turbo compressor controlling.
12. Moist air. Mollier diagram. Cooling, heating, mixing and moistening of air. Applications in air conditioning.
13. Production of steam, steam dryness and moisture content. Heat of evaporation, the dependence on the pressure. The boiling curve, the triple point, critical point. Diagrams for water steam. Theoretical and practical steam power plant cycles.
