Thermodynamic and kinetic characteristics of combustion and explosion. Chemical and physical equilibria. Thermochemical characteristics of combustibles. Composition of combustion products, thermal effects, pressure and temperature. Specific heat of fire. Mechanism of combustion and explosion reactions. Theory of chain reactions. Thermal mechanism, kinetics of adiabatic reaction. Flame. Physical characteristics. Diffuse, kinetic, laminar and turbulent flame, temperature distribution in the flame. Flame stability. Thermal and temperature regime of fire. Combustion of gaseous, liquid and solid substances.
Mechanism of explosive transformations, explosive combustion, 2nd order explosion, detonation. Shock wave, origin, propagation. Hydrodynamic theory of detonation.
Dispersion systems, formation, condensation and dispersion methods, importance in fire practice. Properties of colloidal systems, optical, kinetic and electrical. Foams. Origin, stability and use of foams. Surface phenomena. Free and surface energy, surface and interfacial tension. Wetting of solids by liquid, Laplace equation, limit angle, measurement methods. Physico-chemical principles of extinguishing. Extinguishing media and their physicochemical properties and effects. Dilution, cooling, interruption, retardation.
The selection of chapters will be made on the basis of the orientation of the doctoral dissertation.
