1. Vapor – liquid phase equilibrium. Real mixtures. Energy and massbalances.
Flash distillation.
2. Rectification. Feed, distillate, bottoms. Balance of column and stage.
Reflux, McCabe-Thiele method.
3. Experimental condition for rectification. Boilers, design and operation.
Condensers, Assumption of process heat duties. multicomponent
rectification.
4. Rectification columns. Stage columns, distillate rate, design
calculations. Process efficiency.
5. Mass transfer driving forces. Mass transfer coefficient in liquids and
gasses. Overall mass transfer coefficient. Interfacial area, etc.
6. Absorption. Henry law. Effect of temperature. Operating line. Transfer
unit and relation to the real stage. Multicomponent absorption.
7. Packed bed columns. Packing and packed bed columns design.
8. Liquid extraction in system of two immiscible solvents. Phase equilibrium.
