Subject syllabus

1. Introduction and overview of materials, basic properties or non ferrous metals based materials. List of selected applications - frame, body, drive system, safety components, accessory equipment. Promising applications.
2.-7 Light alloys, classification (Al, Mg, Ti), effect of the chemical and phase composition on the properties. Optimization of properties using thermal or thermomechanical treatment. Technology properties and treatment. Application of selected alloys and limitation.
8.-10. Materials used in high temperature automotive applications. Structure and mechanical properties. Technology properties and treatment. Materials for exhaust and brake systems.
11. Shape memory alloys. Optimization of properties by means of composition and heat treatment. Application in driving and control systems.
12. Materials used in electromagnetic applications.
13.-14. Composite materials. Effect of the chemical and phase composition on the structure, mechanical and other properties. Limitations and advantages of applications.
