Subject syllabus

I. Block - General theory of interaction:

Week 1 – Body barriers – Compartment theory, main barriers/compartments, methods of transport of substances between them.
Week 2 – Basic toxicokinetic and toxicodynamic terms, basics of xenobiochemistry.
Week 3 – Toxicokinetics, basic toxicokinetic calculations.
Week 4 – Toxicity vs. pathogenicity of soluble substances, nanoparticles, microparticles and macroparticles.
Week 5 – Detoxification mechanisms of the organism.
Week 6 – Immune reaction to a foreign particle.
Week 7 – Macro (patho)physiological processes associated with foreign bodies.

II. Block - Special Theory of Interaction

Week 8 – Biocompatibility of metals with the organism – a macroscopic view.
Week 9 – Biocompatibility of metals with the organism – toxicological perspective.
10. Week – Biocompatibility of ceramic and other oxide materials.
11. Week – Biocompatibility of other inorganic materials.
12th Week – Biocompatibility of non-degradable polymers and composites.
13. Week - Biocompatibility and immunogenicity of biopolymers and degradable polymers.
14. Week – Biocompatibility and immunogenicity of carbonaceous materials.
