Units 1-2 from the textbook Nuevo sueňa 2 (B1).
1. Unit 1, Part 1: Aprendiendo a conocernos. Communication functions: describing cities, geographical locations and climates; comparing places, people and customs. Grammar and vocabulary: the difference between ‘ser’ and ‘estar’; the use of ‘ser’, ‘estar’ and ‘haber’; the use of articles.
2. Unit 1, Part 1: Aprendiendo a conocernos. Communication functions: comparing and describing characteristics. Grammar and vocabulary: descriptive adjectives – gender, number, position in the sentence and agreement; degrees of comparison of adjectives; impersonal constructions with ‘se’.
3. Unit 1, Part 2: ¡Qué familia! Communication functions: talking about family; describing personal characteristics, moods and feelings. Grammar and vocabulary: possessive pronouns (posesivos); nouns and forming the plural.
4. Lesson 1, Part 2: ¡Qué familia! Communicative functions: reactions and expressing emotions, e.g. ¡qué lástima!, ¡es fantástico!, ¡qué me dices!, es una pena. Grammar and vocabulary: ser and estar + bueno / malo / bien / mal; adjectives whose meaning changes depending on whether they are used with ser or estar.
5. Revision of Unit 1. Communicative functions: summary conversation – describing people, families, places and expressing feelings. Grammar and vocabulary: practising and consolidating ‘ser’ / ‘estar’ / ‘haber’, agreement of adjectives and possessive pronouns.
6. Unit 2, Part 1: Conocemos una lengua. Communicative functions: expressing intentions, plans and obligations. Grammar and vocabulary: the present tense of regular and irregular verbs; verb constructions tener intención de, ir a, pensar + infinitive, deber / tener que + infinitive.
7. Unit 2, Part 1: Conocemos una lengua. Communicative functions: expressing likes and preferences and giving reasons for them; general truths. Grammar and vocabulary: the verbs gustar, odiar, preferir + infinitive / noun; third-case pronouns – indirect object; the present tense in everyday conversation.
8. Unit 2, Part 2: Un día cualquiera. Communicative function: everyday habits; expressing how often we do things. Grammar and vocabulary: the present tense for describing a typical day; time expressions for the present (marcadores temporales).
9. Unit 2, Part 2: Un día cualquiera. Communicative function: expressing the time that has elapsed since the start of a particular activity, and how long the activity has been going on. Grammar and vocabulary: time constructions ‘hace (tiempo) que’, ‘desde / desde hace’; ‘ya no’; ‘todavía’.
10. Unit 2, Part 2: Un día cualquiera. Communicative functions: expressing conditions and actions currently in progress. Grammar and vocabulary: conditional-temporal clauses ‘cuando / si’ + present tense + present tense; constructions for ongoing actions: ‘llevar’ + gerund, ‘estar’ + gerund.
11. Revision of Unit 2. Communicative functions: daily routines, future plans, hobbies, expressing time and the duration of activities. Grammar and vocabulary: practising time prepositions and constructions (desde / hace), verb constructions and irregular verbs in the present tense.
12. Test preparation and comprehensive revision of Units 1 and 2; a mock test; analysis of common mistakes. Grammar and vocabulary: summary of all the grammar and vocabulary covered in both lessons.
13. Final test. Assessment of knowledge from Units 1 and 2: listening, reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary section, and speaking. Followed by an evaluation of the test and general feedback.
