The subject is focuses on an overview of the procedures and methods to characterize nanoparticles with regard to their subsequent practical use. The course is divided into three main parts.
The first part is emphasis to the preparation of nanoparticles (of solid, liquid and gaseous media), the description of the material-chemical reactions accompanying the formation / preparation of nanoparticles as a primary step towards the characterization of nanoparticles.
The second part is focuses on methods of nanoparticles analysis, focusing on: a) chemical analysis (elemental and phase composition - X-ray analysis), b) structural / morphological analysis - SEM, HRTEM, AFM.
The third part is devoted to the characterization of individual nanoparticles with regard to their shape, size and surface. Attention is directed on the nonhomogenity of the nanoparticles, creating the aggregates and agglomerates of the nanoparticles.
