Subject syllabus

Lectures:

Unit 1: Materials: mechanical parameters of concrete, stress and strain diagrams, rheological properties of concrete. Mechanical parameters of reinforcement, stress and strain diagrams. Interaction of concrete and reinforcement, hisotry of concrete, basics of reliability and limit states theory. Durability of reinforced concrete structures, cover of reinforcement.
Unit 2: Dimensioning of bending elements, limit equilibrium method. Slab, beam. Detailings of reinforcement of bending elements, drawing of reinforcement structures.
Unit 3: Shear force bearing capacity, strut-and-tie model. Types of shear reinforcement, detailings of shear reinforcement. Punching and torsion.
Unit 4: Eccentricaly loaded (compressed) elements, buckling. Interaction diagram. Detailings of reinforcement of mainly compressed elements. Eccentricaly loaded (tensioned) elements. Confined elements. Biaxial bending.
Unit 5: Serviceability limit states (SLS). Combinations of actions for SLS. Stress limitation, crack width. Deflection control.
Unit 6: Plain concrete structures.

Tutorials:

Unit 1: Dimensioning of reinforced concrete slab, load calculation, design of bending reinforcement, detailings of reinforcement, drawing of reinforcement. Test of knowledge.
Unit 2: Dimensioning of beams, load calculation, design of bending and shear reinforcement, detailings of reinforcement, drawing of reinforcement. Test of knowledge.
Unit 3: Dimensioning of elements subjected to compression and bending, design of reinforcement, interaction diagram, assessment of eccentricaly loaded (compressed) elements.
Unit 4: Assessment of serviceability limit state, simplified assessment of deflection through slenderness ratio.
