Summary

The course Materials Engineering and 3D Printing provides students with fundamental knowledge of the chemical and physical structure of materials used in civil engineering. Students develop comprehension of how the structure of solid building materials influences their mechanical and physical properties and their application in construction, including innovative technologies.
The course places particular emphasis on analysis of the structure of solid building materials and their mechanical and physical properties, as well as on relationships between structural, mineralogical, and chemical composition. Students learn to apply this understanding when considering the suitability of materials for various construction technologies.
An integral part of the course is the synthesis of material structure knowledge with information on additive manufacturing technologies in civil engineering, especially 3D printing. Students are guided toward critical evaluation of material properties in relation to their structural, mineralogical, and chemical composition, with consideration of both traditional applications and 3D printing technologies.
