Language of instruction angličtina, čeština
Code 230-0400
Abbreviation ZM
Course title Basics of Mathematics
Coordinating department Department of Mathematics
Course coordinator doc. Mgr. Dagmar Dlouhá, Ph.D.

Summary

The course focuses on recapitulating, consolidating and unifying basic knowledge of high school mathematics. The aim is to eliminate differences in the initial knowledge of students from different types of high schools and to create a comprehensive knowledge base necessary for the smooth mastery of subsequent university mathematics courses and professional subjects. Emphasis is placed on understanding logical connections, mastering standard computational algorithms and the ability to mathematically formulate the assigned problem.
After completing the course, the student will explain and critically assess concepts from high school mathematics. He will be able to characterize the properties of basic elementary functions, distinguish different types of equations and inequalities, and clarify the relationships between geometric meaning and analytical expression of basic figures in the plane.
The student is able to analyze and evaluate the correctness and completeness of the results of mathematical calculations with respect to the conditions of solvability. He independently chooses the appropriate procedure and mathematical tools for solving typical and non-typical computational problems.
The student is able to independently use basic mathematical knowledge and concepts as well as standard computational algorithms and methods.
