The subject acquaints the students with the basic terms, principles and
approaches of the mechanics of rigid bodies. It contains two parts - statics
and dynamics. Statics acquaints the students with the term force. They learn to
carry out the operations with forces. They acquaint with two basic effects of
the force - the force and the moment of the force. They learn to solve the
problem of the resultant force and the problem of the force equilibrium. They
master the basic approaches in investigation of the force application on the
rigid bodies via the free-body diagram. They acquaint with the internal forces,
stresses the specific class of bodies - beams. They learn to solve the joint
forces, transmitted between single bodies, composing the rigid body structure.
They acquaint with the problems of friction. They learn to investigate the
position of the centre of gravity. In dynamics the students acquaint with the
basic quantities of the motion and the relations among them. They acquaint with
the term degree of freedom as the basic unit, quantifying the motion of
arbitrary subject. They learn to investigate the motion of the particle, the
body and the mechanism. They acquaint with the basic relationship between the
motion and the forces as its cause. This relationship, 2nd Newtons law - law of
the force, they learn to apply to the investigation of the motion of the mass
particle, the body and the mechanism. They acquaint with subsequent physical
quantities of mechanics and the laws of its variation. They acquaint with the
geometry of the mass, with the quantities describing the inertia effects of the
mass and with its influence to the motion of the body.
