The introductory semester of the course focuses on consolidating previously acquired language knowledge (grammar and vocabulary) and language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). Before enrolling in the course, students can assess their language proficiency by taking an entrance placement test, which is available to them after enrolling in their study programme. The minimum required level for enrolment in this four-semester course is A2.
Throughout the entire course (English 1–English 4), students will work with the Navigate B1 Pre-intermediate textbook, covering the first three units during the first semester. Another aim of the language classes in this semester is to help students identify the strengths and weaknesses of their language competence and motivate them to continue developing their skills independently.
The accompanying workbook will be used primarily for self-study, together with supplementary interactive materials available in Moodle to students enrolled in the course.
