Subject syllabus

The program of lectures
Lecture Program
1. Role and function of mass passenger transport, mobility, transport requirements. Characteristics of public transport. Systems analysis in mass passenger transport.
2. Peak traffic periods and their effects. Service interval, turnaround time and its components, speed, transport distance.
3. Line transport capacity. Traffic schedule/graph. Timetable creation. Operational calculations.
4. Mass passenger transport output. Indicators of time and capacity utilization for public transport vehicles.
5. Transport quality. Multi-criteria evaluation methods for passenger and freight transport.
6. Formation and distribution of transport flows. Designing a mass passenger transport system. Integrated passenger transport systems.
7. Distribution of transport tasks (modal split). Selection of transport mode. Operational and economic aspects of vehicle selection.
8. Designing a public transport system. Model of transport service for a populated area. Transport network and its characteristics.
9. Designing a public transport network. Temporal and spatial accessibility of mass passenger transport.
10. Operational elements of road freight transport. Speed, capacity, loading and unloading times, transport distance, standards.
11. Turnaround time in road freight transport, operating time, operational technology for semi-trailers, trailers, vehicle combinations, and tippers.
12. Performance in road freight transport and freight forwarding. Calculations and assessment. Coefficients of time and capacity utilization for freight vehicles.
13. Impact of technical and economic indicators on the performance and costs of road freight transport.

Exercise Program
1. Seminar on mass passenger transport issues. Discussion.
2. Technical calculations for vehicle circulation on the route.
3. Calculations of operational output, number of vehicles on the route, and service intervals.
4. Project assignment: "Design of transport operations for a public transport route."
5. Calculations of project data. Construction of the transport schedule (graph).
6. Developing the transport schedule: peak periods, off-peak periods, and safety breaks.
7. Compiling timetables for passengers and vehicles.
8. Progress test 1. Discussion on project solutions.
9. Driver and bus performance table; calculation of the required number of drivers.
10. Driver shift scheduling for a selected month and day.
11. Calculation of route costs based on specified direct and indirect cost figures.
12. Progress test 2. Data comparison and review of completed projects.
13. Selection of transport mode; project evaluation.
