Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to identify the fundamental principles of air navigation, describe the shape and coordinate system of the Earth, the Earth's magnetic properties, cartographic projections, aeronautical charts, and time systems used in aviation, and explain the principles of aircraft position determination, the measurement of directions and distances, dead reckoning navigation, and flight planning in accordance with VFR and IFR procedures.
Students will be able to apply general navigation principles to flight preparation and planning, develop an appropriate flight route using aeronautical charts and navigation data, perform basic navigation calculations, and evaluate the accuracy of flight planning with regard to flight safety and operational efficiency.
Students will be able to independently conduct the resolution of model navigation tasks, justify the selected navigation planning procedure based on applicable aviation regulations and navigation principles, take responsibility for decision-making during flight planning, and evaluate risks associated with navigation preparation and flight execution.
Successful completion of the course forms part of the theoretical training for the Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and the Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL). The course is based on Module 060 – Navigation and provides the knowledge and skills required for the theoretical examinations leading to the issue of the relevant pilot licences by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Czech Republic.
