Subject syllabus

1. Organizational structure of an airline (special positions resulting from aviation legislation, Nominated Persons/Postholders, Accountable Manager vs. CEO and COO).
2. Airline establishment, regulatory requirements, operations manuals and their structure (OM-A, OM-B, OM-C, OM-D).
3. Certification process to issue the AOC, and special operational approvals (LVO, RVSM, ETOPS).
4. Low-cost carriers and legacy carriers in general, hub & spoke vs. point-to-point strategies.
5. Market consolidation differences in the USA and EU, comparison of European models RYR, EZY, NAX, and WZZ.
6. Airline commercial practices (flight planning process from initial concept, network planning, airport slot issues and slot trading, sales and distribution – sales channels, eCommerce, digitalization, revenue management, fleet planning).
7. Airline administration, IT, HR, Finance, Controlling, and Safety & Quality departments.
8. General airline operations.
9. Ground operations (outsourcing of ground services – provider management, handling, loading – ULD, Dangerous Goods).
10. Flight operations (structure – fleets, crews – FC, CC, training department, flight planning department, operational control vs. IOCC).
11. Maintenance department (in-house vs. provider management, line maintenance, base maintenance).
12. Quality and safety department (quality – compliance management, SMS, flight data analysis FDM/FOQA, safety board, safety performance indicators, airline security, emergency response and planning).
13. General discussion on European aviation market consolidation, the relevance of flag carriers and LCCs, CSA a.s., Ostrava Airport, the future of civil aviation, and drone-related issues.
