Subject syllabus

1. Safety Assurance within the Safety Management System (SMS).
2. Monitoring organizational safety performance and evaluating Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs).
3. Safety data analysis and data-driven safety management.
4. Safety information collection, processing, and sharing systems.
5. Internal safety audits, safety investigations, and verification of corrective and preventive actions.
6. Occurrence investigation and the application of investigation outcomes to improve aviation safety.
7. Safety risk management during operational changes and emergency situations.
8. Human and organizational factors in the implementation and continuous development of the Safety Management System (SMS).
9. Predictive safety management, Safety Intelligence, and the application of trend analysis.
10. Application of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and big data in safety management.
11. Integration of the Safety Management System (SMS) with other organizational management systems and organizational safety culture.
12. Assessment of Safety Management System maturity and principles of continuous improvement.
13. Comprehensive case studies on the implementation and evaluation of Safety Management Systems in aircraft operators, aerodrome operators, and air navigation service providers.

E-learning

Learning outcomes are assessed through continuous assignments completed within the e-learning system, independent study of the recommended literature, and individual consultations with the course instructor.

The requirements for successful completion of the course and the award of the graded credit are:
- successful completion of a continuous online test;
- submission of a semester project focused on the design, implementation, or evaluation of a Safety Management System within a civil aviation organization;
- successful defence of the semester project during an individual consultation or through an online presentation;
- achievement of at least 51% of the total assessment score.

The semester project will primarily focus on one of the following topics:
- design and implementation of a Safety Management System within a civil aviation organization;
- development and evaluation of Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs);
design of an internal safety audit programme;
- analysis of safety data and proposal of corrective and preventive actions;
- assessment of the maturity of a Safety Management System and the proposal of measures for its continuous improvement.
