The learning outcome is the ability to understand and navigate the field of engineering materials. Students will gradually become familiar with the individual properties of engineering materials, their importance for practical applications, and the possibilities of modifying these properties through surface treatments. They will acquire basic knowledge of surface treatment methods and their application to improve material resistance, particularly against corrosion and wear. Students will also become familiar with the principles of selecting suitable materials and surface treatments with regard to the required properties, function, and service life of a product. The course also provides basic knowledge of material processing, recycling, and reuse, as well as the environmental aspects of material use, including the impact of surface treatments on sustainability and the environment.
