Subject syllabus

1. Fundamental terms of welding, formation of a welded joint, fusion and solid-state welding, overview and classification of basic welding methods.
2. Formation of weld metal, types of welded joints, basic types of welded constructions.
3. Welding thermal cycle, heat-affected zone.
4. Destructive testing of welded joints, welding process documentation (WPS, WPQR).
5. Defects in welded joints, introduction to non-destructive testing of welded joints—NDT (VT, PT, MT, UT, RT).
6. Weldability of materials, definition of weldability, factors affecting weldability, calculation of preheating temperature.
7. Oxy-fuel welding, manual arc welding with a covered electrode.
8. Gas-Metal Arc Welding.
9. Gas-Tungsten Arc Welding, overview of unconventional welding technologies.
10. Submerged arc welding, spot welding.
11. Thermal cutting of materials (oxyfuel cutting, laser and plasma cutting).
12. Fundamentals of brazing and soldering, soldering technologies, solders, and fluxes.
13. Fundamentals of bonding, mechanisms of adhesion, bonding technologies, adhesives.
