Equipment Safety in Nuclear Power Engineering

Language of instruction angličtina, čeština
Code 345-5401
Abbreviation BZJE
Course title Equipment Safety in Nuclear Power Engineering
Coordinating department Department of Mechanical Technology
Course coordinator doc. Ing. Lucie Krejčí, Ph.D.

Summary

The graduate of the course acquires knowledge and skills in the field of radiation protection and the safe handling of sources of ionizing radiation. They are familiar with basic dosimetric quantities, are able to convert and interpret them, and apply the ALARA principle when planning simple work activities. They distinguish between deterministic and stochastic effects of ionizing radiation and are able to estimate exposure risks in common scenarios. They design basic measures to minimize doses in both occupational and medical environments, prepare simple exposure monitoring plans, and classify workplaces according to radiation risk. They are able to follow procedures for the safe handling, storage, and record-keeping of radionuclides and understand the principles of radioactive waste and spent fuel management. They can classify radiation emergency situations at a basic level and propose initial response measures, as well as prepare supporting documentation for assessing minor technical changes from the perspective of radiation safety. At the same time, they gain an overview of the principles of physical protection of nuclear materials and the basic safety systems of nuclear power plants of the PWR/VVER type, including the concept of defence in depth.
