1. Fundamentals of energy processes.
2. Energy, work, heat. Energy transformations, exergy.
3. The role of the energy sector in society and industry, key terms and connections.
4. Energy source options, energy mix, and emission and environmental impacts.
5. District heating, cogeneration and trigeneration.
6. Thermal power plants: principles and applications; coal-fired, combined-cycle, nuclear, and biomass power plants.
7. Emission reduction options, flue gas cleaning, carbon dioxide capture.
8. Hydropower plants, types of turbines.
9. Wind power plants, types of turbines.
10. Solar energy: photovoltaic, solar thermal, and concentrating power plants.
11. Other renewable sources: biomass, geothermal, tidal energy, wave and ocean current energy, ocean thermal energy. Use of unconventional and modern energy sources and their storage.
12. Energy storage: types of storage power plants, pumped-storage, battery power plants, compressed gas storage, fuel cells, hydrogen energy, thermal energy storage.
13. Technical excursion.
