Summary

Embark on a journey into the world of energy, where you will discover the principles and technologies that power our society. You will learn the fundamentals of energy processes, understand the relationship between energy, work, and heat, and explore how energy is transformed and utilised in various applications. You will gain an overview of both conventional and renewable energy sources, ranging from coal-fired and nuclear power plants to wind, solar, and hydropower. You will learn how modern technologies for cogeneration, trigeneration, flue gas cleaning, and carbon dioxide capture work, and explore new possibilities for energy storage, such as hydrogen technologies and battery systems. The course connects theory with practice and includes a visit to energy facilities, allowing you to see how theoretical knowledge is applied in real-world operation. The learning outcome is the ability to understand the principles of energy processes, characterise conventional and renewable energy sources, and assess the basic options for energy conversion, utilisation, and storage in modern energy systems.
