Summary

The course builds on prior knowledge in thermomechanics, physics and fluid mechanics and further develops it through applications to energy machines. Students gain a comprehensive overview of the principles of energy transformation in positive-displacement and dynamic compressors, fans and pumps, and develop an understanding of their basic structural and operational arrangements.

After completing the course, students are able to explain the physical nature of energy processes occurring in these machines and describe them using fundamental models and performance characteristics. They are capable of performing a basic energy assessment of the operation of compressors and pumps, interpreting the results of measurements of energy performance, and placing them within a broader technical, economic and environmental context.

The acquired knowledge and skills provide a solid foundation for further study of energy machines and enable students to competently orient themselves in the issues of design, operation and evaluation of energy systems in both conventional and nuclear energy engineering.
