This course provides a basic overview of electrical engineering, electrical circuits, electrical machines, industrial electronics, and electricity generation. Students will become familiar with the fundamental laws of electrical engineering, methods of electrical measurement, electrical equipment, and the principles of safe work with electrical equipment. The course also covers the basics of electric drives, the generation and distribution of electrical energy, and industrial electronics.
Knowledge: Upon completion of the course, students will be able to explain the basic laws of electrical engineering and concepts such as voltage, current, and electrical power. They will be able to distinguish between direct current, single-phase alternating current, and three-phase alternating current circuits. They will also understand the function of circuit elements, basic semiconductor components, and the principles of electricity generation. They will explain the function of low-voltage electrical switching and protective devices and the fundamentals of how electrical machines operate. They will understand the basic safety requirements for working with electricity and the qualification requirements for electrical engineering personnel in accordance with current legislation.
Skills: Student applies basic laws of electrical engineering to solve problems involving simple direct-current and alternating-current circuits. He/she calculates currents and power in circuits, as well as basic mechanical quantities in drives with induction motors.
Competencies: The student is able to competently decide which approach to take when solving problems in the field of electrical engineering, while maintaining the necessary level of safety. Depending on the nature of the problem, the student selects an appropriate solution independently or as part of a team with appropriately qualified individuals.
