Lectures:

Properties of light.
Coherent light sources.
Noncoherent light sources.
Modulation of light and modulators.
Light transmission through dielectric waveguides.
Basic properties of optical fibers.
Transmission properties of optical fibers ond cabels.
Atmospheric light transmission.
PN junction photodetectors.
Photodetectors without PN junction.
Basics of optical communications systems.
Basics of optical non-communications systems.

Exercises:

Three non-rated laboratory measurements:

Basic manipulation with optic devices and components, cleaning of connectors, connecting, bare fiber adapters.
Direct and undirect methodes of attenuation measurement.
Splicing of optical fibers.

Three rated laboraty measurements:

Measurement of optical fibers attenuation in dependence on bending diameter.
Measurement of LED Volt/Amper charakteristics.
Measurement of LED temperature dependency.

Two computing exercises.
Two tests during semester.
