Subject syllabus

Lectures:
1) Difference between communication and sensory fibers, use of optical fibers and their properties as a sensors, division of kinds and types of sensors.
2) Description of the physical principles and processes utilized during sensing. Optical light modulators for optical sensors.
3) Intensity sensors.
4) Interferometry sensors, Sagnac and Michelson interferometer.
5) Grating optical sensors, gratings production, use, sensors with transverse or longitudinal grating.
6) Polarization sensors, photoelastic effect.
7) DTS, Principle of OTDR, OFDR, Rayleigh, Raman and Brillouin scattering, principle of DTS.
8) Application of optical sensors, temperature, pressure, fluid, flow, position, chemical, vibration, current, voltage, biomedical sensors.

Laboratories:
1) Interferometric measurement with Mach-Zehnder interferometer.
2) OTDR measurements.
3) DTS measurements.
4) Intensity sensors - vertical displacement.
5) Intensity sensors - horizontal displacement.
6) Measurement of Bragg grating temperature dependence.
7) Identification of colouring agent in substance.
8) Determination of colouring agent quantity in substance.

Tutorials:
First introductory tutorial, security of work in the laboratory.
Two computing tutorials during semester.
Two tutorials are reserved for tests during semester.

The last tutorial in the semester is reserved for alternative laboratory measurement or alternative test.
