Subject syllabus

Lectures:
Ethernet technologies: IEEE 802.3, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Etherenet, 10 Gbps Ethernet.

Link Layer Protocols. Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP): architecture, frames, LCP and NCP (IPCP). Authentication (PAP and CHAP), compression, dynamic address assignment, multilink PPP. Callback.

ISDN. Using ISDN to interconnect LANs.

Frame Relay. Using Frame Relay to interconnect LANs.

Virtual Private Networks (VPN). Tunelling. IPSec architecture.

Mobile IP

Computer networks administration, monitoring and diagnostics. SNMP, MIB, RMON. SPAN.

Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Implementation of QoS using MPLS. Implementation of VPNs with MPLS. MPLS Traffic Engineering.


Wireless networks: 802.11, 802.16. Bluetooth.


ATM network. Usage of ATM circuits for computer networks. LANE, CLIP.


Access networks: DSL, CATV, Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC)

Voice transfer in packet networks: Voice over IP, RTP. SIP, H.323.

Laboratories:
During exercises students work with technologies discussed on individual lectures.

Introduction to lab network devices configuration. Ethernet.
Point to Point Protocol.
ISDN.
Frame Relay.
MPLS.

Aplikace MPLS.
IPSec.
Mobile IP.
IP telephony with H.323.
IP telephony with SIP.
ADSL.
IEEE 802.11 networks.

In the last part of semester students work on their semestral projects and may consult them.

Projects:
The goal of the project is to apply some of discussed protocols or technologies in pracice case study and document replicable results.
