Applied Geophysics

Language of instruction angličtina, čeština
Code 541-0005
Abbreviation UGF
Course title Applied Geophysics
Coordinating department Department of Geological Engineering
Course coordinator Ing. Mgr. Martin Kašing, Ph.D.

Summary

The course Applied Geophysics covers the principles and possibilities of using geophysical methods in the exploration of the geological environment, particularly gravimetric, magnetometric, geoelectric, electromagnetic, seismic, and radiometric methods. Attention is paid to the fundamentals of measurement, processing, and interpretation of geophysical data and their application in geological, hydrogeological, and engineering-geological exploration, as well as in related applications such as environmental assessment.

Professional Knowledge: The student will acquire basic knowledge of the physical principles of the main geophysical methods, the instruments used, field measurement techniques, and the processing and interpretation of measured data. They will become familiar with the capabilities, limitations, and practical application areas of individual geophysical methods.

Professional Skills: The student is able to select an appropriate geophysical method to solve a basic exploration task, design a simple field survey, perform basic processing of geophysical data, and interpret the obtained results with respect to the geological conditions of the area of interest.

Professional Competence: The student is qualified to independently solve basic tasks in applied geophysics, evaluate the suitability and limitations of individual methods, and utilize geophysical survey results in assessing geological, hydrogeological, engineering-geological, and environmental issues.
