Engineering Geology

Summary

Engineering geology is an applied geology discipline that provides data indispensable to the design and geotechnical solution for mining engineering structures. The subject comprises theoretical and practical lessons covering the engineering geological characterisation of the geological environment, including an overview of used methods of engineering geological exploration; criteria for classifying rocks and rock masses according to engineering geological and geotechnical typological classifications; geodynamical processes, causes of origin, process mechanism, assessment, forecasting and risk analysis, exploration methodology for preventive and improvement measures, overview of regional engineering geological conditions, methodology for engineering geological mapping and the role of the sets of maps; foundations and principles of the processing and evaluation of results of specific engineering-geological investigation for underground structures, hydraulic structures, improvement, reconstruction and reclamation operations.
