Summary

The course introduces students to the fundamental principles of economic geology, mineral resource economics, and the methodology of natural deposit valuation. The content covers topics ranging from the geological conditions of formation, genesis, and morphology of ore, industrial mineral, and fossil fuel deposits to their mineralogical and petrographic properties. Special emphasis is placed on the methodology of resource and reserve estimation, inventory accounting, and reporting, as well as the classification of reserves and their significance for subsequent field development and mining operations.

Professional Knowledge
The student defines basic terms in economic geology, such as mineral, mineral raw material, and mineral deposit, and clarifies the economic importance of mineral resources for the national economy and the EU. The student describes the geological processes and conditions leading to the formation of deposit accumulations, their genetic classification, morphology, and basic industrial types of metallic, non-metallic, and fossil fuel deposits. Furthermore, the student explains the principles of reserve classification, estimation methodologies, record-keeping, and how reserve reporting connects to the entire deposit development process.

Professional Skills
The student applies established reserve estimation methods to specific types of mineral deposits based on the analysis of their structure, texture, and morphology. The student evaluates the mineralogical and petrographic composition of a deposit and assesses the factors directly influencing its economic importance and practical utilization. The student also prepares documentation for inventory accounting and reporting, correctly categorizing mineral accumulations into appropriate reserve classes.

General Competencies
The student independently assesses the economic and geological potential of mineral accumulations with regard to broader economic and societal contexts. The student critically evaluates technical data concerning mineral deposits and clearly presents the results of estimations and reserve balances. The student is also able to effectively integrate knowledge from geology, mineralogy, and economics when addressing complex tasks related to mineral exploration and resource exploitation.
