Special Drilling Activities

Summary

The subject gives basic information about special drilling technologies used in drilling practice. First of all, the attention is intent on these special drilling activities.
Directional drilling, basic directional well types – characteristics.
Horizontal drilling – modern technology of borehole drilling – technical means
for directional and horizontal drilling. Turbines (turbodrills) and downhole
motors. Measuring technique used for orientation of well axis course.
Inclinometers – measurement methods and constructional workmanship.
Measusrement while drilling – MWD and LWD systems (LWD – logging while
drilling). Multilateral drilling and re-entry drilling – determination of oil
and gas reservoir recovery inerease. Coiled tubing drilling technology -–CT
technology. Slim hole drilling. Underbalanced drilling – UBD technology.
Drilling by use of top drive system – TD drilling. Some of modern geotechnical
unconventional drilling methods and deposit mining. Rotary – percussion
drilling by use of down – the – hole hammers.
