Groundwater Hydraulics

Summary

1/ Groundwater flow – Darcy´s law, hydraulic properties of rocks (hydraulic conductivity, transmisivity, storage coefficients), flow in anisotropic aquifers, Dupuit assumption for phreatic aquifer.
2/ Groundwater flow – mathematical statement – basic continuity equation, initial and boundary conditions, fundamental equations for flow in aquifers, superpositions, flow nets, relationships between flow in isotropic and anisotropic aquifers, analytical solutions of steady flows in aquifers.
3/ Flow in unsaturated zone – capillary pressure and retention curves, motion equation, relative permeability
4/ Hydraulic testing – methods and application. Conventional hydraulic tests procedures and analyses (Theis, Jacob, Hantush..) Single borehole tests – slug tests, bail tests. Hydraulic testing of fractured or low permeability rocks.
