Subject syllabus

Syllabus of lectures:
1. Stone in human society, from history to the present, and its role in the development of human society. Types of rocks suitable for coarse and fine stone production and their classification according to various criteria. Occurrences of the main types of natural stones in the Czech Republic and examples of quarries extracting blocks of stone for HCV and UKV.
2. Stone block mining (basic concepts, block mining for rough and fine stone production, mining in soft and hard materials). Factors influencing block mining. Main principles for opening quarries for block mining. Block quarrying technology - a brief overview of quarrying methods.
3. Stone quarrying by wedging, from history to the present. Stone quarrying with rope saws.
4. Stone quarrying by cutting with circular saws. Stone quarrying by carving with chainsaws.
5. Stone quarrying by drilling. Stone quarrying by blasting.
6. Disconnecting stone by means of non-explosive mixtures - cevamite and its use for block quarrying and processing, advantages , disadvantages and uses of cevamite.
7. Specific methods of stone block extraction (water jet, thermal cutting...).
8. Technology of rough and fine stone processing. Characteristics of rough and fine stone products. Technology of stone finishing with hand tools and instruments.
9. Manufacturing processes with fine stone finishes - cutting methods and machinery used for this.
10. Manufacturing processes with fine stone finishes - stone cutting and polishing and the machinery used for this.
11. Methods of handling quarried blocks of stone in quarries. Methods of handling material and products of rough and fine stone production in stone works.
12. Auxiliary processes to ensure stone production.
Water and sludge management in stone works. Production processes using water. Composition of water management. Sludge management.
13. Production of technical stone. Principle, requirements for raw material. Use of technical stone and its properties.
