Subject syllabus

Outline of lectures
1. The stone in human society, from history to the present, and its role in the development of human society. Types of rocks suitable for rough and noble stone production and their classification according to various criteria. Raw material resources, stone deposits for HUKV in the Czech Republic and examples of quarries extracting stone blocks for HKV and UKV.
2. The concept of block mining. Factors influencing block mining. Mining in soft and hard materials. Stone block mining technology - a brief overview of mining methods. Main principles for opening quarries for block mining. Principles for carrying out overburden work and the process of face queues. Basic parameters of quarry and mining sections, values of broken block.
3. Main tests determining the usability of stone for stonework.
4. Technology of processing blocks for rough stone production (HKV). Types of stone products for HKV and its characteristics.
5. Basic properties of rocks determining their use for noble stone production (VHF). Block processing technology for noble stone production. Types of stone products for VHF and its characteristics.
6. Stone quarrying, from history to the present.
7. Quarrying of stone by drilling. Quarrying of stone with rope saws.
8. Quarrying of stone by cutting with circular and chain saws.
9. Quarrying of stone by means of blasting works. Specific methods of stone block mining - water jet mining and thermal cutting.
10. Movements of blocks and products - aids and tools for manual and mechanical handling of blocks and products.
11. Manual processing of stone, used tools and implements. Stone machining,
12. Mechanization of stone production. Production lines for continuous and discontinuous stone production.
13. Conglomerated products, method of production, processing and their use.
14. Work safety during mining, transport and processing of stone blocks. Environmental protection in HUKV and environmental protection tools in mining.


Outline of exercises
1. Legislation for rough and noble stone production and orientation in legal regulations and technical standards.
2. Surface treatment for stone processing for rough and noble stone production.
3. Main tests determining the usability of stone for stonework. Laboratory work.
4. Cevamit and its use for mining and processing of blocks. Advantages, disadvantages and uses.
5. Design of a suitable method for extracting a block of stone and its subsequent division for further processing. Calculation, procedure, scheme - semester work.
6. Lifting, loading, transport and handling of excavated stone blocks. Design for calculation of crane handling space.
7. Water, sludge and waste management in block stone mining and its impact on the environment.
8. Professional excursion to the quarry for the extraction of blocks and a workshop for the processing of decorative stone.
9. Credit paper.
