Summary

The course focuses on the mitigation of the impacts of mining activities, remediation and reclamation of areas affected by underground and surface mining. It introduces students to relevant legislation, planning documentation, and procedures related to mine and quarry closure. The course covers the impacts of mining on the ground surface and the environment, the stages of the reclamation process, and technologies used for mining-technical, agricultural, forestry, hydric and other types of land reclamation.
Professional knowledge: The student is familiar with legislation and planning documentation related to mine closure, remediation and reclamation of mining-affected areas. The student understands the impacts of underground and surface mining and the principles of mining-technical, agricultural, forestry, hydric and other types of reclamation.

Professional skills: The student is able to assess the impacts of mining on an affected area, propose basic remediation and reclamation measures, and select an appropriate reclamation method with regard to the type of mining and the future use of the area.

General competences: The student is able to independently assess basic issues related to the mitigation of mining impacts, integrate mining-technical, environmental and legislative aspects, and professionally justify the proposed solution.
