Seminar of Diploma Thesis

The objective of the course “Thesis Seminar” is to prepare students for their final state examinations, which include the defense of their thesis. The course covers the main principles of thesis preparation, including its structure, the content of the theoretical section, an introduction to the relevant faculty guidelines, the content of the practical section of the thesis, and citation principles according to ČSN ISO 690, Information and Documentation—Rules for Bibliographic References and Citations of Information Sources.
Students demonstrate knowledge of the faculty guidelines for writing a thesis, knowledge of the principles of citing documents, the ability to independently prepare and organize the structure of a thesis, the ability to process and evaluate measured data, and the ability to draw conclusions and present the results of their work.
Professional Knowledge: The student understands the principles of writing a master’s thesis, the requirements for its structure, the content of the theoretical and practical sections, and the rules set forth in the relevant faculty guidelines. They are familiar with the principles of working with professional and literary sources, the principles of their critical evaluation, and proper citation according to ČSN ISO 690. They understand the basic principles of selecting research methods, processing and interpreting data, and formulating scientifically sound results and conclusions.
Professional Skills: The student is able to independently search for, analyze, and critically evaluate relevant professional information sources and, based on them, structure the theoretical framework of the thesis. The student is able to process and evaluate measured or otherwise obtained data, apply appropriate methods of analysis, formulate results and conclusions, and prepare the corresponding professional documentation. They are able to prepare and deliver a professional presentation of their thesis and clearly present its objectives, methodology, approach, results, and contributions.
General Competencies: The student independently and responsibly plans the approach to solving a professional problem, sets priorities, and decides on the appropriate method for preparing the thesis, taking into account its objectives and the required professional standard. They critically evaluate the limitations of the chosen methods and the results achieved, take responsibility for the academic quality and accuracy of the thesis, respect the principles of academic and professional ethics, and are able to clearly defend their results before an academic committee. They are able to utilize feedback and independently manage their further professional development.
