Branch Practice I

Upon successful completion of the module, the student will:

Professional knowledge

1. describe the basic organisational, technological and documentation links between the individual stages of a standard surveying project, from data preparation and collection through to data processing and the handover of results;
2. explain the principles and practical application of the basic surveying methods and technologies used in the workplace, and describe the conditions and limitations of their use;
3. explain the importance of requirements regarding accuracy, measurement control, completeness of documentation and traceability of surveying results;
4. is familiar with the basic legal, technical, safety and professional requirements relating to the activities in which they are involved during their practical training.

Professional skills

1. based on a broadly defined task and under professional supervision, selects and applies an appropriate standard operating procedure when carrying out a basic surveying task;
2. prepares and operates standard surveying equipment to the extent commensurate with their current professional training and the nature of the workplace;
3. collect, record and process spatial data in a basic manner, carry out prescribed checks and identify obvious discrepancies or errors;
4. locate, organise and interpret professional, technical and legal information necessary for carrying out the assigned task;
5. prepare basic documentation on the work carried out and clearly explain the working procedure used and the result achieved;
6. when carrying out a specialist task, apply basic analytical, control and verification procedures specific to the field to an extent commensurate with their level of study.

General Competencies

1. works responsibly, both independently and as part of a team, and adheres to established work, safety, legal and ethical principles;
2. within the scope of a broadly defined task, makes appropriate professional judgements even in situations where not all the relevant details are fully known in advance, and recognises situations requiring consultation with a person with professional responsibility;
3. communicates clearly with members of the professional team, accepts professional guidance and feedback, and is able to summarise essential information and opinions relating to the task at hand;
4. when carrying out a task, takes into account the legal, safety and ethical implications of surveying activities and respects the scope of their professional responsibility;
5. critically reflects on their own practical experience, identifies gaps in their knowledge and skills, and formulates needs for further professional development.

The course thus develops, in particular, the ability to apply theoretical knowledge in professional practice, to solve broadly defined problems, to work with relevant information, to collaborate responsibly within a professional team, and to acquire further professional knowledge and skills through practical experience and its evaluation
