Branch Practice II

Main topics

Professional Practice II builds on Professional Practice I and on the specialist knowledge and skills acquired during the second year of study. It focuses on integrating theoretical knowledge and practical skills when tackling more comprehensive specialist tasks in a real-world surveying environment, and on developing a higher degree of independence, responsibility and professional judgement in students. Students undertake a 160-hour placement, i.e. four weeks, with an organisation carrying out surveying activities, under the professional supervision of an authorised surveying engineer (AZI).

The main topics include, in particular:

• analysis of surveying briefs and planning of the work process;
• selection of appropriate surveying methods, technologies and equipment, taking into account the purpose, required accuracy, site conditions and available resources;
• carrying out fieldwork and related office-based surveying activities in accordance with the workplace’s specialisation;
• processing, checking, evaluating and interpreting spatial data;
• assessing the quality of results, identifying sources of error and evaluating the limitations of the methods used;
• producing professional, technical and, where applicable, officially usable documentation to the extent appropriate to the nature of the task at hand;
• application of legislation, technical standards, internal regulations and quality management systems;
• professional communication, teamwork and coordination of individual work activities;
• professional responsibility, and the ethical, safety and social implications of surveying activities;
• critical reflection on one’s own professional activities and identification of needs for further professional development.
