Branch Practice II

This module builds on the learning outcomes of Field Practice I, aiming to develop a higher degree of independence, the integration of knowledge from multiple specialist subjects, the reasoned selection of working procedures, quality control of results, and responsible professional decision-making commensurate with a bachelor’s degree.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

Professional knowledge

1. explain the links between the purpose of a surveying task, the required accuracy, the method used, the equipment employed, the method of data processing and the form of the resulting documentation;
2. describe the possibilities, conditions and limitations of using selected geodetic methods and technologies in real-world professional practice;
3. explain the principles of quality control and the assessment of the accuracy and reliability of surveying results;
4. explain the significance of legal, technical, safety, professional and ethical requirements for the planning, execution and documentation of surveying activities.

Technical skills

1. analyses a technical problem on the basis of a broadly defined brief and, under professional supervision, proposes an appropriate approach to solving it;
2. selects the appropriate measurement method, technology, working procedure and resources, taking into account the purpose of the task, the required accuracy, the measurement conditions and the available resources, and justifies their choice on a technical basis;
3. collect and process spatial data, check it, evaluate the quality of the results and interpret the findings professionally;
4. search for, organise, compare and interpret relevant professional, technical, legal and operational information required to solve the assigned task;
5. apply basic analytical, experimental, comparative and verification procedures within the field to the extent necessary to assess the correctness and quality of the solution;
6. identify significant sources of uncertainty, errors or limitations in the procedure used and propose appropriate control or corrective measures;
7. produces a technical report or documentation appropriate to the nature of the surveying activity undertaken and presents the key results and conclusions;
8. applies the relevant legal and technical regulations when carrying out the task and respects the scope of activities which the student may only perform under the supervision of a professionally qualified person.

General Competencies

1. within the scope of the task assigned, makes independent and responsible decisions in contexts where only partial information is available, and provides a professional justification for their decision;
2. in accordance with the framework brief and allocated resources, participates in the organisation and coordination of the work team’s individual activities and bears responsibility for the quality and timeliness of their own assigned deliverables;
3. when making professional decisions, takes into account the legal, safety, professional and ethical dimensions of the problem being addressed;
4. communicates information on the professional issue, the procedures used and the results of their work clearly and objectively with members of the professional team and, depending on the nature of the task, with other participants in the work process;
5. is able to summarise the relevant views, requirements and comments of other team members and formulate their own professionally justified opinion;
6. accepts and utilises professional feedback and critically evaluates the quality of their own work;
7. independently acquires further professional knowledge and skills based on practical experience, its critical evaluation and the study of relevant professional and technical sources.
