Summary

The economics of raw materials is a multidisciplinary field that enables students to understand the issues surrounding mineral resources and natural resources in all their complexity and breadth. This course familiarizes students with the content, key concepts, and interrelationships of the individual disciplines that together constitute the economics of raw materials.

Upon completion of the course, students will achieve the following learning outcomes:

Specialized Knowledge: Students will be familiar with the basic terminology of the economics of raw materials and related disciplines and will understand the interconnections among them. They will explain the economic significance of raw materials from the perspective of businesses, the state, and the European Union. They will explain the nature of critical and strategic raw materials and describe the basic legislative framework governing this issue. They will explain the classification of mineral resources and reserves. They will clarify the basic principles of the Czech Republic’s raw materials policy and the Czech Republic’s National Energy Strategy.

Professional Skills: The student searches for, sorts, and interprets basic information and data from the field of raw materials management. The student works with data published in statistical and specialized sources, particularly in raw materials yearbooks, and interprets basic indicators characterizing the state and development of the raw materials sector. They are able to apply the acquired knowledge to assess the economic significance of selected raw materials and the fundamental contexts of their use.
Professional Competencies: The student independently applies basic knowledge of the economics of raw materials to understand issues related to raw materials management. The student is able to identify the interrelationships between the economic importance of raw materials, their availability, the classification of sources and reserves, and the tools of raw materials and energy policy. They formulate and justify basic conclusions regarding the importance of selected raw materials for businesses, the national economy, and the European Union.
