Summary

The course Landscape and Spatial Planning focuses on the principles, methods, and tools of spatial and landscape planning in the context of sustainable development. It includes working with spatial planning documentation (in particular spatial development plans, regional development principles, and regulatory plans), orientation in the applicable legislative framework, and the practical application of the Territorial System of Ecological Stability.
Knowledge: Upon successful completion of the course, the student understands the fundamental principles and instruments of landscape and spatial planning within the framework of sustainable development; is familiar with the legislative framework of spatial planning in the Czech Republic as well as in the European context; has knowledge of the structure of spatial planning documentation and the process of its preparation; understands the relationships between natural, socio-economic, and technical components of the landscape; is able to identify land-use constraints and landscape values (environmental, cultural, and aesthetic).
Skills: The student is able to analyse a given territory in terms of its natural, urban, and infrastructural characteristics; work with cartographic materials, GIS tools, and other analytical methods; interpret spatial planning documentation and apply its principles in planning and design practice; develop basic conceptual proposals for land use with regard to sustainability and landscape protection; identify spatial conflicts and propose alternative solutions; present analytical results and design proposals to both professional and non-professional audiences.
Competences: The student is competent to assess the impacts of human activities on landscape character and ecological stability; understand the importance of strategic planning in the development of settlements and landscapes; apply principles of public participation in planning processes; integrate environmental considerations into technical and planning proposals; incorporate current trends in spatial planning (e.g. climate change adaptation, blue-green infrastructure).
