Basic of Environmental Law

The target of the subject is acquainting of students with fundamentals of environmental law in the Czech Republic.
Professional Knowledge: Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to explain and critically evaluate the system, principles and instruments of environmental law and their position within the Czech, European and international legal framework. The student will characterise the legal regulation of individual environmental components, nature and landscape protection, waste and circular economy, environmental impact assessment, environmental liability, access to environmental information and public participation. The student will explain the competences of public authorities and the principles of administrative decision-making and legal liability in the field of environmental protection.
Professional Skills: The student will be able to identify and interpret relevant legal requirements in the field of environmental protection and apply them to specific situations in business and administrative practice. The student will analyse the legal status and obligations of relevant stakeholders, assess the interrelationships between different areas of environmental law, and evaluate the legal implications of proposed activities and decisions. The student will be able to work with current legislation and other legal sources, identify relevant legal provisions, and professionally justify a proposed approach to solving environmental law issues.
General Competences: The student will be able to independently and responsibly assess complex environmental law issues, critically work with legal and professional information sources, and formulate conclusions with regard to the current legal framework. The student will be able to navigate a changing legal environment, clearly interpret legal requirements and their implications for the entities concerned, and provide professional justification for the approach adopted when addressing an environmental law issue.making.
