Industrial wastewater treatment

Language of instruction angličtina, čeština
Code 546-0125
Abbreviation ČPOV
Course title Industrial wastewater treatment
Coordinating department Department of Environmental Engineering
Course coordinator prof. Ing. Silvie Heviánková, Ph.D.

Anotace

The course deals with the generation and characteristics of industrial wastewater and with processes and technologies suitable for its treatment. Attention is paid to mechanical, physicochemical, chemical, electrochemical, membrane, and biological processes, the treatment of generated sludge, and the design of appropriate technological schemes for different types of industrial wastewater.
Professional knowledge: The student acquires knowledge of the characteristics of industrial wastewater and the principles of individual treatment processes, particularly mechanical separation processes, membrane processes, flotation, neutralization, precipitation, oxidation-reduction processes, adsorption, ion exchange, coagulation and flocculation, electrochemical methods, and aerobic and anaerobic biological processes. The student also acquires knowledge of the basic methods used for the treatment of sludge generated during industrial wastewater treatment.
Professional skills: The student is able to assess the suitability of individual treatment methods based on the characteristics and composition of industrial wastewater, propose and compare possible technological solutions, and appropriately combine individual processes. The student is able to evaluate basic technological parameters of treatment processes and apply the acquired knowledge to specific industrial wastewater treatment cases.
General competences: The student is able to independently analyse the treatment requirements of a specific industrial wastewater, select and justify appropriate technological processes, propose suitable combinations of these processes, and critically assess alternative solutions with regard to the characteristics of the wastewater and the required quality of the treated water.
