Subject syllabus

1. Pedology - its position, development and tasks. Current concept of soil, pedon, definition.
2. Physical and physico-chemical view of the soil.
3. Chemical and biochemical view of soil.
4. Biological view of soil.
5. Pedogenetic factors and soil processes. Soil taxonomy. Characteristics of soil conditions in the Czech Republic.
6. Risk elements and persistent organic pollutants in soils.
7. Physical and physico-chemical degradation of soil, chemical and biological degradation of soil in industrial environment.
8. Environmental degradation of soil. Contamination of soils by industry, mining and processing of minerals.
9. Basic methods of soil decontamination, classification. Ex-situ and in-situ methods.
10. Practical examples of the use of decontamination methods in the industrial environment.
11. Soil in the environment of old environmental burdens, methods of restoration of the original function of soils, the importance of reclamation and revitalization.
12. Soil regeneration in the post-industrial environment, the importance of biota in the restoration of soil ecosystems.
13. Legislative aspects of soil protection. Nature and Landscape Protection Act, Forest Act, Water Act.
