Industry-induced Global Environmental Issues

The course focuses on current global environmental problems, their causes, interrelationships and possible approaches to addressing them. Attention is paid to the impacts of industrial and other anthropogenic activities on the environment, climate and atmospheric change, landscape degradation and biodiversity loss, eutrophication, chemical pollution, waste generation and plastic pollution, and their impacts on ecosystems and human health. The course also addresses the relationships between energy production, natural resource use, urbanisation, production and consumption, and global environmental change, as well as the potential role of environmental technologies and economic instruments in addressing these challenges. Attention is also paid to environmental ethics, behaviour and education. Emphasis is placed on critically evaluating the causes and consequences of global environmental problems, their interrelationships, and possible approaches to addressing them in both global and local contexts.
