Anotace

The objective of the course is to familiarize students with the principles, legislation, and methodologies of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and to enable them to critically evaluate, interpret, and propose mitigation measures for anthropogenic impacts.
Professional Knowledge: Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to explain and critically evaluate the principles, methods and procedures of environmental impact assessment of proposed projects. The student will characterise natural and anthropogenic factors affecting environmental quality, the social, health, economic and ecological aspects of assessment, and methods for assessing interactions between selected activities and the environment. The student will explain the principles of assessing the environmental impacts of industry, energy production, mineral extraction and transport, and characterise the legal framework and individual stages of the EIA process in the Czech Republic, including its international and European context.
Professional Skills: The student will be able to identify and analyse significant impacts of a proposed project on individual components of the environment and public health, select and apply appropriate assessment methods, and critically interpret the results obtained. The student will assess interactions between individual impacts, apply selected multicriteria assessment methods, and propose and justify appropriate measures to prevent, reduce or compensate for adverse impacts. The student will be able to navigate the individual stages of the EIA process, work with relevant documentation and current legislation, and assess applicable requirements in relation to a specific project.
General Competences: The student will be able to independently and responsibly assess the complex environmental implications of proposed projects, critically work with professional, data and legal information sources, and formulate conclusions based on their evaluation. The student will be able to clearly interpret and professionally justify the results of environmental impact assessments, formulate recommendations for further decision-making, and assess the implications of proposed measures for environmental protection and public health.
