Subject syllabus

1. Homogenization of raw materials. Technology of production of sinter. Basic technological characteristics of iron ore, pellets and sinter (reducibility, strength, disintegration). Requirements for components of sinter charge, possibilities of coke substitution in sinter mixture (anthracite, biomass)
2. Quality control of the produced sinter (returnable sinter). Basic indicators affecting the productivity of the sintering belt.
3. Metallurgical properties and quality tests of iron charge. Strength, disintegration after reduction, reducibility. Quality assessment.
4. Cokemaking. Requirements for coking properties of coal: agglomeration, plasticity, swelling and expansion of coal.
5. Quality requirements for blast furnace coke: calorific value, mechanical parameters, reactivity of blast furnace coke. Possibilities of affecting on the quality of coke.
6. The technology of pig iron production, the technological flow of materials, the possibility of using metal briquettes in the blast furnace.
7. Requirements for components of blast furnace charge. Requirements for the ores and fuel sections, sweedstock permeability requirements. Blast furnace coke function. Degradation of coke in a blast furnace.
8. Blast furnace profile and its main parts. Blast furnace construction. Bell-shaped hopper, storage and distribution of charge materials. Lining of individual parts of the blast furnace. Cooling of individual parts of the blast furnace. Design of cooling elements.
9. Blast furnace irregularities. Hot working and cold working of blast furnace. Scaffods in the blast furnace. The effect of zinc and alkaline compounds on working of blast furnace.
10. The blast furnace stove, their types, equipment and operation. Modernization of blast furnace stove. Moistening of the blast furnace air. Preheating of the combustion gas and air. Temperature and composition of gas in raceway.
11. Possibilities of using alternative fuels. Traditional and unconventional replacement fuels: characteristics. Injection of liquid, gaseous and solid fuels. Consumption of substitute fuels, comparison of properties, determination of coke substitution coefficient.
12. Heat state control of the hearth, gas flow and loss in blast furnace. The technology of high pressure in blast furnace . Drop of charge-Vertical Strength System. Enriching the air with oxygen.
13. Control of blast furnaces. Blowing-in, blowing-out of blast furnaces. Tapping of liquid products of the blast furnace hearth.
14. Environmental aspects of the production of pig iron. Cleaning of blast furnace gas. Waste recycling options in the blast furnace. Perspectives of the production of pig iron.
